Keeping Cool For Your Summer Wedding

Everyone knows Texas summers can sometimes be brutally hot. That’s why it’s important to keep in mind some different ways to keep cool during your summer wedding. And luckily for you, I have plenty of tips and tricks to help you out.

Picking a Good Time of Day

The very first step to beating the Texas heat is picking a good time of day for your summer wedding. You might think that noon is the hottest time of day, but that’s not quite true. During Texas in the summer it is in the late afternoon from about 3 o’clock to 5 o’clock. So if you are having a wedding during the Texas summer, especially if it’s outside, you might want to schedule it before or after this time frame to avoid the scorching heat. The good thing about a summer wedding is that you could have your wedding at 8:00 p.m. when it is likely far past the hottest time of day, and it will still be light outside.

Consider Your Clothing

Even if you do manage to avoid the hottest times of day, it will probably still be plenty hot. One thing you can do to help yourself when it comes to keeping cool is keep the heat in mind when choosing your outfits. When it comes to dresses, consider choosing a lighter or cooler fabric such as chiffon, silk, organza. When picking a suit for the summer you might look into linen, cotton or seersucker. Think of wearing open-toed shoes, sandals, boat shoes, or loafers. Another thing you might not think of is using a setting spray for your makeup so it doesn’t melt in the heat.

Keeping Hydrated

One of the most important things to think of during a summer wedding (especially one outside) is keeping yourself, your bridal party, and your guests hydrated. The most obvious solution to making sure you’re hydrated is by having water readily available. You might have galvanized buckets full of water bottles, if that fits your vibes, or coolers strategically placed and decorated, or covered, but still marked as water so your guests know where to find them. For your bridal party you could consider giving them personalized water bottles and making sure there are places to fill them up. Make sure you have someone (like the maid of honor or best man) who will be nearby who can ensure that you have water.

Unique Guest Solutions

Keeping your guests happy will make your day go a lot smoother. There are some interesting and unique solutions to keeping your guests cool during an outdoor Texas wedding. One thing you could do is hand out parasols or fans to your guests or place them on their seats or near the entrance to the venue so they may use them to cool themselves even if it’s only a small bit of relief. You also might consider another more unconventional solution to keeping your guest cool like a mobile snow cone or ice cream cart to cater to your guests during the typical cocktail hour or the time before the actual ceremony.

There are a few ways to make sure that you can keep you and your guests cool during an outside summer wedding. From the usual methods to unique and cute ones, you can still have your summer wedding dreams come true even with the harsh weather of a Texas summer.
