Surprise proposals can be so much fun. The question is, how do you get your future fiance to a picturesque location with a photographer without them noticing? Here are two common ways to keep your proposal discreet, but still have photos of the big moment:
Come up with reasons to have a photographer
One way to keep your proposal a surprise is to come up with a different reason that you might have a photographer. You could say you booked a photographer to take family photos, or for an extra special moment, do it around their birthday and say you wanted to have a birthday photoshoot. Then, they will be ready to take photos (cute outfit and all) and you can pop the question right in front of the camera!
Hide the photographer
Another option is to keep the photographer hidden. With the photographer out of sight, this allows you to tell your loved one that you’re just going on a date, and propose out of the blue (from their perspective). In some cases the photographer can literally hide by standing behind a tree or hanging back and waiting for the perfect moment. In other cases, the photographer can be hidden in plain sight, think a touristic place, or somewhere that lots of people and cameras would not be out of place. The only drawback to the plain sight approach is that there may be other people in your photos.
Keeping your surprise proposal a surprise doesn’t have to be difficult. The main thing to keep in mind is to come up with a plan and stick with it. Your fiance will love the effort you put in! If you need some help along the way, I’ve worked with many proposals as a wedding photographer, so I’m happy to help answer any questions you have about the logistics.
