Choosing Your Engagement Photo Locations

If you’ve booked your wedding or are planning to book your wedding with me, you don’t have to worry about whether you should have engagement photos taken. While all of my wedding packages include complimentary engagement photo sessions, we will still need to choose the perfect location for them! There are a few details that you should consider when searching for your ideal engagement photo locations.

Location Restrictions

One important factor to keep in mind is the restrictions that some engagement photo locations may have. The first factor you should consider is that some locations require the photographer to get permission prior to shooting there. You should make sure that you let your photographer know ahead of time where you want to take photos so they can acquire any permits or permission needed.

Another factor to keep in mind is closing times. Of course, this won’t be a factor for every location, but when it comes to places such as coffee shops, studios, and some parks, it’s especially important to take note of. If closing times may be a factor in your case, make sure you know when they open and when they close.

Weather is another important restriction to think about. As you probably know, here in Texas, summer days can get insanely hot. Scheduling photos in the mid afternoon during a Texas summer could result in melting makeup, sweat stains, or general discomfort. Contact me for my suggestions on best times or take a look at indoor options if weather is extreme. However, if you do want crazy weather such as a rainy-romantic session, let me know and we can make your unique vision come to life!

Need Help Choosing Locations?

Another perk of booking with me is that I send everyone who books with me a guide to help find a good location and time for your session. I include in my guide the times some local businesses are open. I also include different locations for great local photos including outdoor locations (parks, hiking trails, gardens), photo studios, and novel locations (theaters, galleries, coffee shops), etc.

Where to Do Your Engagement Session?

A big step in deciding where to do your engagement photo session is knowing what vibe you want to bring. Choosing a location that brings in some of your shared interests or a sentimental place can showcase your relationship.

Are you indoor or outdoor people? Some couples really connect in nature, some feel closer at an indoor location, and some feel comfortable at both. I offer two separate locations for every engagement photoshoot. You can pick two indoor locations, two outdoor locations or one of each. My goal is to take your photos in a location where you feel the most relaxed and yourself.

Weather doesn’t have to put a stop to engagement photos in your favorite spot, you just need to make sure that you’re prepared. Choose clothing that caters to the weather at the time. If you don’t want to bend to mother nature’s whims, you could consider moving indoors or rescheduling your shoot for a time when the weather is better.
